The Undefinables

I read once that we're born alone and die alone.

It's not true.

We all have an extended family, people whom we recognise as our own as soon as we see them. The people closest to me have always been marked by a peculiar difference in their make-up. They are the walking wounded, the ones to whom a psychological injury was done that they will never be able to define, the ones with the messianic glaze in their eyes, or the oblique glance as though a military tank is going to burst through their mental fortifications. They drive their cars regularly into others, cause psychiatrists and parents to sigh helplessly, turn meetings into free-fire zones, and even frighten themselves when they wake up in the middle of the night and think they've left the light on, and then realize perhaps their heads simply glow in the dark.

But they save us from ourselves. Whenever I hear and see a politician or an office senior, rings of black haloes at his back, trying to convince us of the rightness of a policy or deed that will cause harm to others; when I am almost convinced myself that setting humanitarian concern in abeyance can be justified in the interest of a greater good, I pause and ask myself what my brain-smoked friends would have to say. Then I realise the rhetoric would have no effect on them, because for those who were most deeply injured as children, words of moral purpose too often masked acts of cruelty.

So that's when you let go of reason and slip deeply into the wobbling, refracted green light of a marsh, with a child as your guide, and let the season have its way with your heart.

The Gospel of Thomas, saying 70

If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you

Chhat kaha thi naseeb me footpath ko jagir samajh baithe,

The stupor

When you think you have seen what's there to be seen, felt what's to be felt, life can be a drag. I somewhere believe in the Hindu concept of many lives because I can't fathom someone ending a possibility because he didn't have the energy or couldn't fulfill it.

The bite is real

There comes a time when all the intelligentsia inside you is streaming through the pores like FleshGod Apocalypse surging through the speakers. When there is complete sync with what is, what is real, what matters and of course the fake. When you are watching all the play and all the bloom from behind the eyes like a spectator. Inside a conjurer's box. And yet you helplessly feel the hand of Hades have an seemingly unbreakable grip on the viscera. Can't discount the call. It's like Prodigy's Firestarter further ripping the shreds. Ñow I know how and why Adam bit the apple.

The Opening

Sometimes life gives you a master key perhaps based on your past life. Or maybe something else. But you need to be careful not to open locks just on whim lest you dissolve the levers for life. And then though the key will turn it won't open anything.

Sometimes you gotta thank life for taking some major decisions on your behalf without consent.

Flow

Some say don't burn your bridges.
I say, if necessary, let the kerosene kiss it on the lips.
Watch it turn to ash.
There's always more than one way to cross the water.

Why

You must understand this - why it happened to you and why it happened in the cosmos are two different things

Mirror mirror

Puzo rightly said w.r.t. action that words are nothing but a fart in the wind.

Till the time of his death, no man can be assured of his courage. The ultimate battle man has to win is only over himself.

The road to discovery will test the best mettle. And at times even your best won't be enough. The biggest problem every human has is the sustenance of any emotion or thought. And therein lies the problem and solution. Till that is held on to, there won't be any worthwhile pro...gress. Individual or collective.

And all is against the race of time.

Opening line from an epiphany hymn by the Right Reverend Reginald Heber, Anglican bishop of Calcutta

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning
Dawn on our darkness and lend us Thine aid

Lip service

Einstein was right. Compound interest is the most powerful force in the world. What you have become is the price you paid to get what you used to want.

Que sera sera

The US is one of my favourite places to be in the world. Any part of US will do. But I have deigned to stay away for the last two years. I made my peace and restricted travel to most of Europe and the Pacific. But there's no shorting destiny or time. As fate decrees, I will head to the East coast of US again this month. New Jersey and York for 3 days. I will try to be meek and submissive this time.

Time - the most important piece

They say time heals all wounds. But not if your timepiece is a windup clock with a metronomic beat that has no hands and serves no purpose except to tell you your time is running out.

Back to the future

The totality of a man's days eventually becomes a circle rather than a sum, and one way or another, he always ends up at the place where he had begun.

In the mind

Sometimes in the very rare moments in the mind's eye you can see the past and the present and the future all at once; as though time is not sequential in nature but takes place without a beginning or an end, like a flash of green light ripping outward from the center of creation, and unlike a dream inside the mind of God.

Love is the mystic

Some things are nipped in the bud
That's nature saying it did what it could
What isn't yours isn't yours to feel
Lest it become your Achilles heel

Love is to many like Neptune to Earth
It's there but sadly not for them to birth
Don't search again for what once you were blessed to receive
It's time to move up, reset and forever be free

Yoga it

I have always wondered why do people do the things they do. Some acts I understand are out of duty, out of physical compulsions, out of societal necessities. But what about the rest of it? I have kind of stopped reading newspapers over the last few years though I do occasionally read The Evening Standard or The Sun. Rubbish I know but not much different than The Economist or The Financial Times. Only the actors are different but everyone is screwing everyone anyway.

I do not believe it is the nature of man to be violent. Why does man rape, murder, indulge in skulduggery, sky dive, race cars, watch movies, have extra marital affairs, torture, booze, drug, cheat amongst so many other similar activities? I believe they are all borne out of anger. For e,g. once man attains puberty and tastes the essence of 'nothingness' in those sweet moments, he starts yearning for it 24*7. Inability to achieve that gives birth to anger which leads to some or all or more of the activities I mentioned earlier. Thinking a bit more led me to the conclusion that man today doesn't know how to be intense or live an intense life. All those acts are just temporary substitutes which give a high but leave a bigger vacuum than before. For e.g. I know this man in Credit Suisse who regularly parties with Michael Schumacher. He tells me Michael cant sit for a minute without constantly trying to do something with his hands and legs.

All this thoughts and emotions leading to action are coming out of the most complex computer ever built - the human body. If we learn to manage it correctly, the intensity is on round the clock. If not, ah well there is so much time out there, isn't it? Nah. Yoga.

Another soul perishes

Not the kind of 'day' news I like waking up to but another life that enriched other lives with his music and lived its potential has been liberated.. my favourite track from Manna Dey's haunt.
