Yesterday, I was chatting with someone who read my "Too much work" post. And she asked me, "Did you grow up without morals?" Honestly, morality to me is timidity wrapped up in a philosophical overcoat. It actually piqued me quite a bit that a reader could get such a strong impression based on what I wrote. The wild things I did were part of moi growing up period (read teens and a little post teens too) and I don't regret them a bit. But just goes to show that sometimes certain things need to be on a need to know basis and unnecessary sharing of information can come and nip your (_o_) :)
But readers tell me honestly; did you get the same impression about me?

I don't get it. What are u talking about?
hmmmm... hard to say.
This has a lot to do with the cultural background, and considering the conservative society you no doubt grew up in, I would say yes.
And by the way, morality is not timidity. It is a choice, at least in this day and age. And 'reason' is at the root of morality. common good, survival, etc.
mystic: what makes u say i grew up in conservative society?? I believe individual thoughts are conservative and not society. You might want to explore the darkest recesses of your desire and see what contains you. You might be surprised by what you are, what you really think and what you do if you let yourselves go free. What you call a choice is nothing but an excuse for lack of whatever to be free. No survival involved here.
from that post? no way.
I already have, magpie. I know myself inside out :). My point is something else entirely, and it would involve some in depth thinking and discussion.
But I wonder why you would react this strongly to my response to your poll? Or even worry about your impression in the first place, as they say... the ones that matter dont care , and the ones that do - dont matter...
Interesting discussion here :)

I meant to say.. a pretty deep subject.
I'm sorry something that was said in a light-hearted vein should have caused you pique. Perhaps 'morals' was the wrong word, or atleast it was said in reference to our culture I grew up in. I personally believe there is no right or wrong, bad or good except what experience teaches us. What's beneficial is good.
Anyway, my apologies.
Mystic: Didn't affect. Was surprised by your strong language.
DC: :)
Whoa Portia, Stop!!
T: As Kurt Cobain, said "No apologies". What is is, what was was.
From the post, I cannot make out much. But, don't really bother about other's opinion. They could be wrong because they are judging by a few words that you have written.
However, that might be the opinion of that single post and not about you as a person. I have learnt to detach myself from all these with time. I had people telling me I have a screwed up attitude too.
Such small print - can barely read! An email ID is an email ID but I guess I am ready to 'expose' my true identity :)
Do you want to know who I am????
From your post? No way...But then, who am I to say you are moral or immoral... Its your life.
I have learnt that we live in a world where moral policing and doling out advice gives most holy joes a kick like no other. You cant escape or ignore it all the time. The best way - just live your life the way you know best :)
I just discovered your blog. Liked it and subscribed rightaway.
arunima: so right. I don't bother too but was as i said earlier 'piqued' that impressions are casted so easily ichatter: disclosures on email :-) jason : welcome. And i echo your thoughts. No other way to live, isn't it?
ok i am late....
i actually want to laugh WM
i think its the perception, what is morally right for me might be wrong for some and vice versa
this whole moral things sometimes irritates me actually, who are we to decide for someone else's moral
